Sesame Street in Swahili

Sesame Street is a muppet show, but each episode also has a number of what they call "Live Action Films", short videos with real children. Now work is underway of adapting a south african version of Sesame Street to Swahili. This calls for original Swahili LAFs, and in october 2007 Maweni Farm carried out a training workshop for more or less inexperienced filmmakers. The result was these four LAFs.

Mgongowazi

Mgongowazi is the part of the nile perch - head, skin and bones - that is not exported from the fish factories surrounding Lake Victoria. Instead it is collected, eaten and traded locally by the poor. In 2003 and 2004, we made a series of six films about the mgongowazi-eaters with young women from the three countries around Lake Victoria.
